Skin Cancer Awareness for Massage Therapists

Earlier this month I attended training for Skin Cancer Awareness for massage therapists.

Hosted at the Bristol College of Massage and Bodyworks, a consultant from the South Mead Hospital, talked to us about how to spot the early signs of skin cancer and when we should alert our clients to see their GP.

Melanoma is the most common skin cancer and the fifth most common cancer in the UK, as well as the most prevalent skin cancer in people under 50.

As massage therapists and other body workers we regularly see, touch and manipulate people’s skin. And we can often be one of the first people to spot any changes that occur in our client's skin. With a little knowledge and awareness we can potentially help save someone’s life.
